The Most Important Battle You’ll Ever Face Is Happening Right Now

I’m tired, devoid of energy and strength. My mind doesn’t seem to work right now. To squeeze a thought from it takes ten times the energy it usually would. Distractions come into my view easily. It’s nearly impossible to resist them. To focus, I know I must, but I just don’t feel like it. (Listen to this: Why You’re Not Succeeding)

I deserve a day off. Yesterday I drove 12 hours in hellish conditions, nearly crashing multiple times. I’m sleep-deprived, sapped of my strength and missing my imagination.

I simply do not want to work. I don’t want to write or answer emails or write newsletters. I want to sit on my ass and watch football. And where’s the harm in doing what most are doing on any given Sunday?

This is the battle line.

These moments, where you’re not motivated, where work is the last thing in the world you want to do, are by far the most important moments in your LIFE.

When you don’t want to work but you have work to do, you must work.

When you don’t want to train but it’s a training day you must train. (Read This: The Most Important Days to Train)

It’s these tests where you either defeat your weakness, your laziness, your cowardice, or you feed it, strengthen it, enable it. If I don’t work in this very moment I’m strengthening the weak part of me, the lazy part of me, the part of me that wants ease over results. And the more I choose to take it easy, the weaker I get and the less likely success becomes.

These battles aren’t insignificant just because they happen every day, almost every hour.

These are the battles that must be won EVERY TIME THEY’RE WAGED.

If they’re lost, you’re lost. If you give in to the laziness you give away your potential and the duty you have to pay the gift of life back by hustling your ass off.

And so, I get my ass off the couch, sit down at the computer, and win a battle knowing that there will be another one to face in mere minutes. (Read This: Your Life Is Won In Battles That Last But Seconds)

I agree Chad. I’ve been doing a 5×5 strength program 3 days a week and supplementing it with an intense bodyweight tabata style circuit training workout. The workout consist of 6 exercises, 8 sets of each exercise in a 20/10 format with 1 minute of rest between each exercise. This morning I was so sore I thought of blowing off today’s workout, and then I thought of what the Navy Seals, Vikings or Spartans would do. Would they just blow off a training session because they were sore. Hell No ! I then focused my attention to the workout I knew I had to do. I’m writing this as I’m drinking a coffee. My workout mission is completed and I feel a Hell of a lot better know that I done what had to be done. I tell myself everyday “Failure is not an Option” and “The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday” I love all your post there very inspiring and motivating. Take care and have a very blessed holiday season with your family

  2. Dead on agree.

I’m a doctor. When that pager goes off, it doesn’t care if you’ve finished a 22 hour stretch on call, if you’re in the middle of a workout, or getting laid, you *have* to answer the bell.

I’m descended from Scots and Irish. Hard men. Tough men. The name carries a legacy and a heavy load. Every day I have to live up to what has gone before. Pain isn’t an excuse. Fear isn’t. Fatigue isn’t. Answer the damn bell and get to work.
