Scientific truth is marvellous, but moral truth is divine and whoever breathes its air and walks by its light has found the lost paradise. ~ Horace Mann
Morality today is seen as judgemental, and anything judgemental is wrong.
We have ‘fat shaming’, completely ignoring the fact that being fat doesn’t just happen, it’s earned through laziness and overeating. We’re shaming the shamer and not the unhealthy habits of the fatty.
We have ‘body shaming’ and who-the-fuck-knows-what-else shaming. This didn’t exist even five years ago. When I was a kid growing up there was right and wrong.
If you were a whore you’d be looked at and likely called a whore. Now that’s called ‘slut shaming’, and the shamer is ridiculed rather than the slut.
If you were weak you were called weak. If you were fat you were called a fatty. If you were evil, you were an evil son-of-a-bitch. If you were untrustworthy you were a sleazebag. If you were a boy you were a boy, and if you were a girl you were a girl.
Now, there is nothing. There is no morality. There is no right or wrong except right and wrong.
Forget about society, for a second. This ignores laws of humanity that right and wrong actually exist, and not just for the benefit of the collective, but for the welfare of the individual.
To know right from wrong, especially today, means you know what fewer and fewer people are aware of. It means you can have a guide to your life where others are wading in a sea of no direction. You can focus and grow and improve. You can help others and you can help yourself.
We used to be taught these laws in school. We were taught good from bad and right from wrong along with scientific laws, and we were better for it.
Don’t merely study ‘success’ or science or business, study morality. Study the Bible and the Stoics and the Ancient Greek philosophers and those of Ancient Rome. Study Confusious. Study Machiavelli and Sun Tzu.
It’s a pursuit that’s all but lost but it prevents us from being lost.
