Work. Eat. Sleep. Football on Sundays and maybe a hike or two a month. You relax with a stogie and a book and the nervous butterflies that paralyzed you the first time you laid eyes on your then future wife, or the first time you visited a strange land where they spoke a different language and the fear of the unknown wasn’t a deterrent but a challenge, are gone.

Work becomes an excuse not to do things, to not dare mightily even when the best things you’ve done in your life were the most exciting things you’ve done in your life.

Testosterone decreases the moment you hold a baby. It does again when you get married. Why? The theories are that we go from adventurers and conquerors to protects, providers. We were once warriors, now we become worriers.

We worry about the safety of our family. We worry about being able to give them the life we didn’t have. We worry about every little thing in life and we completely stop living dangerously, but it’s this risk, this danger, this thirst for competition that both makes us feel alive and fills our bodies with the most important hormone we have access to.

We see an increase in testosterone when we win. We need to win and we need to compete and we needs to live ambitiously and aggressively.

Don’t decay, please don’t decay.

Just because you have more responsibility, does not mean you have to be comfortable in how you live because there’s so many other things that make you nervous, that worry you.

Your family, your lady, and you need you to live dangerously, to aim audaciously in what you pursue, and to experience the invigorating experiences that you embarked on when you had fewer responsibilities.

Last year at about this time I was on a flight, on my way to hunt in Africa. On that trip I played with lions, stalked warthogs, and chased (but didn’t kill) giraffes.

Before that I explored Argentina and Uruguay, Italy and Scotland, where spontaneity was a daily habit, and discipline allowed me to win in work while I was winning at life.

Recently, I’ve settled into certain realities that don’t have to be so.

While routine and habit are important, if you’re focused on one thing at a time, and you work on the right things, you can do your work and experience a great, adventurous life as well.

Just because you’re ambitious in your work and you want to be a good husband or boyfriend or father, does not mean that your ambitions in other areas of life, with experiences and journeys and adventures, should cease.

If you want to increase your testosterone levels with your mind, you have to do it with your attitude and actions.

Testosterone is your ‘mojo’, and that’s something you should never relinquish, whether you’re married or a father, old or young. You need to be a man, and to be good at being a man.

When you die you’re going to regret the things you did but the things you didn’t do, especially if they’re things you didn’t do enough.

Living an adventurous life isn’t just about boosting testosterone, though that’s an effect of living in such a way. Living a daring life is living, in its truest sense. It’s feeling life, exhilaration and excitement.

The stats on the decline of testosterone in men as they marry and have kids doesn’t have to be your story. Stay vigilant. Stay hungry. Dare mighty things.

I AM A MILLIONAIRE (HOW TO CHANGE YOUR EXPECTATIONS)

I earn over $1 million a month because I do important tasks only. I don’t waste my time on the trivial. I don’t check social media. My time is too valuable for distraction. I’m working on an important mission. I get shit done. I make big moves. I’m on top of my dollars coming in and going out. I invest wisely and aggressively in my business. I take BIG risks, but wise ones. I think bigger than my competition. I help others reach their goals and then some. I’m on a mission and mediocrity in any sense has no place in my life.

I’ve been writing that down at the beginning of every day.

It’s not the dollar amount that should be the focus, though it’s a measurement of how good you are at what you do, but who I am to be worthy of such an amount. (Read This: How to Think Like a Winner)

I’m obviously not there yet – not even close – but that doesn’t mean I can’t act as if I am, or be as if I am the guy worthy of a business that impacts so many damn lives.

Recently, my daily life, mantra, what I aspire to be and what I aspire to create and how I aspire to live has been guided by a few quotes that basically say the same thing.

The first is from Viktor Frankl:

Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it.

The second is from Alexander the Great’s tutor, Aristotle:

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation: we do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we have these because we have acted rightly; ‘the virtues are formed in man by doing the right actions’; we are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit: ‘the good of man is a working of the soul in the way of excellence in a complete life… for as it is not one swallow or one fine day that makes a spring, so it is not one day or a short time that makes a man blessed and happy.

BE great.

We have to define who we are aspiring to become. Sometimes this definition is clarified when we determine the ‘what’ we are trying to accomplish, and reverse-engineer to define the who, to identify the habits that we both have and those we don’t have that the rest of society may prescribe to.

Every morning I write that note above because that’s what I want my business to achieve, and I have to be the guy described thereafter or else I won’t have the goal or live the life.

I have to hold myself to a higher standard or else I won’t achieve what I want to achieve.

Too many people identify the goal, but are ignorant to the habits they have to acquire and who they have to become to attain the dream.

They think the goal is dependent on other things, but it isn’t, it’s always dependent on who we are and how excellent we are.

If you want to earn $1 million a month, why in God’s great name would you spend another minute acting like someone who’s broke, or someone who’s average, or even someone who’s making $20k a month?

The actions of each of those people are beneath your goal, and if you have a massive goal, they’re BENEATH YOU.

Define the what.

Determine the who.

Become the man worthy of a great life.

A business that earns that much money is helping a hell of a lot more people than mine is right now.

It means that guys are actually taking action on things.

It means more guys are doing the workouts and in the Tribe and becoming the men they want to become.

It means more eyes are on the articles and the videos.

The only way to get the business to make that kind of impact, is to be the guy in the description.

But not to be him once or twice, but to be him every day.

Without being held to a higher standard, none of the impact or growth will happen.

THE 4 SIMPLE STEPS TO LIVING A GREAT LIFE EVERY DAY

The more I live, the more I realize what’s important and what isn’t.

…The more I’m aware of my emotions, which are worth paying attention to and which ones to ignore.

The more I live the more I realize that we can all live a truly GREAT LIFE, most of us just lack the clarity, and even the permission, to take the necessary actions that will help us live greatly every day.

What follows is a very simple list.

It’s a list that has helped me with my own life over the last few months.

I’m taking bigger action in my business. I’m chasing dreams in my life and in my relationships that even a year ago, I may not have thought were possible.

I’m living bigger, daring mightier, and every day I feel truly alive.

Do these 4 things. Do them today, and then tomorrow, and then every day thereafter.

They’re simple, but they’re powerful.

1. Aim high. Plan. Act.

The few weeks or so I’ve set some pretty big goals within my life and my business, but I haven’t sat back and dreamt, I’ve planned and taken action.

This isn’t a pat on the back, but an admission.

In the past I’ve set big goals, told a pal or two, and then acted as if I’d already accomplished them. I didn’t reverse engineer how to achieve them and I did hire someone to help me do so.

Recently, I’ve set the big goals, then hired a coach to help me figure out how to achieve them.

One of the things that will help me accomplish what I’ve set out to accomplish is the Average 2 Alpha Tribe newsletter.

The other is something I’ll tell you about in a few days.

The goal is actually pretty massive, but the plan to get there is real. The numbers are attainable – not easily attainable – but they’re attainable.

The goal is audacious, the plan is simple (not easy, but simple).

I’ve been so busy working on carrying out the plan as of late that I feel better than I’ve ever felt. There’s a power in taking action on something you deem as big and actually taking the steps to see it through that doesn’t allow you to look at the bad in your life or the things you can get down about…

… you’re only focused on the massive amount of work you have to do, and it’s awesome.

Set a MASSIVE goal in your business and in your life…

… Then take real time, a day or two, and figure out the simplest way possible to achieve the goal.

… Then ACT!

2. Be really, really busy.

The offshoot of setting this big goal then taking action is you’re going to be insanely busy, which takes planning.

I actually hate the term ‘busy’, because more often than not it involves someone doing a lot of stuff that doesn’t really bring them closer to their wildest dreams. (Read This: Why Being Busy Is Keeping You Broke)

If you do the first step, setting that big goal, then figuring out the simple things you need to do to get there…

Simple can be BIG, but clear. Just because something’s simple doesn’t mean it isn’t massive.

Take the second part of the equation to us here at Dare Mighty Things Inc. growing as we want to grow…

… We’re starting a supplement company and launching the first supplement in two weeks.

The idea is simple. Actually carrying it out has been complicated and difficult.

Have simple, massive ideas, then figure out how to achieve them and you’ll have no choice but to be in the moment, every moment of your life.

3. Train ridiculously hard.

I love working out. It doesn’t matter if it’s running or lifting, doing painful things gives you a high, it gives you a dopamine release that makes you feel absolutely wonderful.

When you’re training, don’t just go through the motions, have your goals, the weights and reps you’re trying to lift, and get after it. (Try This: Free Strength Test)

4. Eat healthy.

Training and eating right is a must.

‘Eating healthy’ can mean a myriad of things, and depending on who you talk to, it can contain many different methods.

I’ll give you something in a couple of days that’ll help clarify A LOT…

… For now, follow this simple advice:

If you can pick it, pluck it, harvest it, hunt it, or fish it, eat it.

That is, if it comes from the ground or if it has a heartbeat, it’s likely good for.

Eating whole, natural foods – and ideally wild fish and game – should be a staple of your diet. This should be your focus. It’ll make a MASSIVE difference in your brain health, which will make a huge difference in how you view your life.

So…

Set a massive goal (It HAS TO excite the crap out of you).

Reverse engineer it and make a good, simple plan.

Take action and be relentless in your pursuit of this massive goal.

Train hard.

Eat right.

Get after it.

5 WAYS TO BECOME A BETTER MAN IN THE WINTER

Being a man has never, and should never, be easy.

The entire idea of manliness and manhood is something to be achieved, something to aspire toward.

The Roman’s saw manliness as a virtue, as excellence in all things. (Read This: Have We Forgotten The Virtues of Manliness?)

That is, daily improvement.

Improvement requires pain, it demands you get out of the comfortable and do attempt what you aren’t certain you can achieve. That’s how we improve.

We do not improve by staying the same, in the same place, as the same man, and with the same abilities.

Winter provides a wonderful opportunity for pain and discomfort that a man must chase, not hide from in his house with central heating and espresso machines and artificial lighting.

Winter provides an opportunity to develop grit and toughness, to test your mettle, to leave laziness as a past companion you never return to again.

1. Hunt.

Depending on where you are, winter – at least the first part – is hunting season.

Hunting is about more than killing an animal and getting the food it provides for you and your family, it’s a connection to the past. Men have hunted for thousands upon thousands of years. The stalk, the shot, the harvesting of the animal, it’s primal, and it’s difficult.

It’s the difficulty that toughens you.

I’m very new to hunting. And I’m 32. Age doesn’t matter. If you want to do something, figure out how to do it, and do it. Just because you didn’t grow up hunting, doesn’t mean you can’t start, even on your own.

2. Hike.

Hiking gives you the silence you need to find clarity, but also to hear that pussy in you that wants to quit before the summit is reached.

Hiking in winter provides obstacles, reasons to quit if you allow reason to dictate your adventure.

It gives you a challenge that hiking in summer doesn’t give. The cold and the snow and the ice try to hold you back, but you push forward.

Half the battle is doing the work during the week to be able to afford the time to get after it. It takes discipline to even be able to go for a hike or a hunt.

3. Early morning solitude.

The days are shorted in the winter, but that doesn’t mean your days have to be shorter.

I took Teddy for an early morning walk in the cold and dark park that’s a minute walk from my house. We got into the woods, saw some deer under the moonlight and some coyotes in the fields.

Winter provides opportunities for solitude and silence every day that the longer days of summer don’t allow. Seize them. Use these darker days to find clarity. Adjust your routine to take advantage of the woods when no one else goes outside.

4. Run.

Run with shorts and a t-shirt. Run in the cold, where the pain of the freezing wind on your face matches the pain of the lactic acid build up in your muscles. (Read This: How Running Can Make You a Better Man)

Pain is GOOD. Moving toward it and using it puts you ahead of 99% of the population.

Get after it.

5. Be outside every day.

The tendency for the winter months when it dips below -20 Celsius is to stay inside.

Don’t.

Get in the habit of doing morning walks and evening walks. Start doing whatever you can around the house to keep it and the yard in shape. Do what others don’t do because it makes them uncomfortable.

I take long walks with Teddy in the winter, usually because I let him run, he sees a deer, then I have to spend 45 minutes trying to get him back as he runs after the thing.

No one else is out. I can play fetch with the guy, let him run around and do what he can’t do when every other human in the park is looking at me wrong for letting my pup run around – and the park rangers are out looking for people who let their dogs run loose, and fining them $150.

Go outside.

Walk, run, hike, hunt, explore.

Don’t let this wonderful season pass you by without a little danger being had, without stories to tell and grit gained.

I just finished watching Braveheart, the true story of William Wallace, the man who led a fight against an oppressive king and, at least in the movie, was spurred into action when a Lord killed his wife.

I know it’s just the movies, but men have always been protectors. Bad men exist. They’ve always existed. And good men have always killed them, or at least tried to.

Then, the other day, another Hollywood big shot was exposed as a scumbag, and I thought…

I thought about Cosby and Clinton and Weiner, and every other celebrity or politician who’s been exposed as having groped or raped or abused women for decades, whose actions are only brought to light after years of being deviants.

And I thought about the priests who molested and raped young boys, and the boys who had to have told someone at some point, and yet no one came to their rescue until it was too late. Until the damage had been done.

And I thought about these deviants, and how none of them have broken limbs or severed heads. None are face down in a river, and every one of them did what they did over the span of decades, sometimes even half-centuries, without ever being harmed.

Our society is soft, too soft.

I don’t care if you’re a liberal or conservative, male or female, at some point you have to see that this hyper-sensitive culture we’ve created allows for less freedom, it creates scenarios where victims aren’t defended and perpetrators are free to do their disgusting deeds for decades.

This has to end.

The participation trophies have to stop. Teaching our boys that they’re a part of an oppressive patriarchy has to end!

Not all men are soft, mind you.

There are still strong men everywhere. Strong men who stand by their principles. Who stand up for those who need help. Who commit acts of violence on the deviants who prey on the vulnerable. But there aren’t nearly enough of them.

Our culture has to change. It must go back to the principles that made it great. Self-reliance, toughness, grit, violence for the greater good. There are reasons beyond the deviants from within, there are enemies and cultures that oppose the values who seem to hold dear, but are too afraid to fight for?

Enough is enough!

Raise your boys to be good at being men, as well as being good men.

Raise them to be barbaric when the time calls for it.

Without the barbarian virtues that conquered lands, we cannot have the softer values we now praise more than ever. So even if you’re a feminist, a liberal, a soft human who hates violence, who wants to tax the wealthy at 100%, who wants to frolic in flowers and sing kumbaya ‘til the cows come home, you have to, at some point (and that point has to be soon), admit that we want our good men to be great at violence because the bad men will always be hiding out in the weeds. 7 Examples of the West Becoming Weak

1. Participation trophies.

It’s simply a destructive way of rewarding.

Young men want to win, and they should be encouraged to adopt the work ethic, discipline, and guts it takes to win – even if they skate by purely on talent.

The handing out of awards based on participation creates a generation who doesn’t know how to win, and as a result, we all lose.

We need more winners, tougher men, not fewer.

This is just wrong.

2. Serial sexual abusers (who remain unharmed).

We talked about this already. How are so many of these sexual predators walking around with all of their appendages? How are they unharmed?

A soft society, one that teaches violence is never the answer. One that views wealth as bad, success and wrong, strength as evil.

3. Anti-hunting without any logic.

Men are hunters and gatherers, and yet we have a crazy growing group of people who are completely anti-hunting. These same people are anti-slaughterhouses (I’m with you on this – although it’s the only way to get nutritious animals to the masses at a cheap price, or so it seems).

So they’re against slaughterhouses, but also against men going out into nature, hunting, stalking, and killing something that will provide sustenance for their family.

How soft and illogical can you be?

Hunting isn’t nice. There’s death involved. But it’s a necessary part of life for every part of the world, and just as lions need to hunt, so do men.

Only in our modern, soft society, could we have such a soft and weak view of killing an animal to feed one’s family.

4. The rise of violence is never the answer, ever.

This includes those who feel as though we should not kill animals for food. Yet, they kill plants, living organisms.

It’s a softness of our society that ignores the necessity for death. Death is a part of life, a part of its circle. It is not evil, it can’t be, it’s a constant. The lion kills the antelope. You cannot hate him for his nature, and you cannot hate a man for killing food that will feed his family.

You also should not hate a man for killing a bad man who is going to do evil things. We send our military off to kill bad men, then too many hate those doing what needs to be done and what the rest of us are unwilling to do.  (Read This: The Good Guys Need Guns Too)

Violence is often the answer when there is a lack of logic or good on the other side. When one side is evil, they are not practical, and yes, ideologies on this planet are evil when they want to inhibit our freedom, and this increasingly soft society is bending over backward for them while turnings its back on the values that enabled such a free and prosperous society to exist.

Man up for shite’s sake. You cannot reason with everyone, or feel sorry for everyone. You can only be kind from a position of strength and be effective with your kindness.

5. Rules of Engagement (handcuffing our military).

To have a group of individuals who’ve never fought in a war, tell our military how to act, is beyond stupid, it’s soft.

The simple goal of war is to kill as many of the enemies soldiers as you can. To handcuff a military by telling them how they’re allowed to do so harms them, it’s also ignorant of the nature of war.

When our enemies set up firing positions in schools and churches because they know we won’t fire at either, you can see the kind of honor we’re dealing with.

A soft culture thinks war is never necessary, it places rules on its soldiers in that vain, and puts them in harm’s way as a result. It’s a weak way of thinking, a soft way of seeing the world, ignorant of how the world works, and it puts good men and women in harm’s way when we should be putting as many of our enemies in harm’s way as possible.

6. The decline of the family.

When an increasing number of men don’t stick around and raise their seeds, you know we’re in for trouble.

It’s a sign that we’re not raising men. We’re raising boys that never really grow up and accept responsibility for their actions.

Fewer fathers are sticking around. Fewer sons and daughters are growing up without male guidance (and we need guidance from both the feminine and the masculine, ideally). And our society is becoming soft…

… Go figure.

7. The rise of government control.

Both sides of the isle should agree on this, we’ve allowed – even given – our government so much control over our lives, which has to be a sign that we’re soft.

A tough society wouldn’t give up freedom under the guise of safety.

A tough society would allow a government to tell them what they can do on their own land and how they can manage it.

A tough culture wouldn’t turn its back on its own values and bend over backwards for values that don’t align with their own, and that millions have fled.

Tough cultures don’t do this, but tough cultures make it so good that they devolve into soft cultures, and that’s where we are.

Tough men won and defended our freedom, which gave way to soft men, which will create tougher times, which will force our culture to once again become tough.

Why not ensure that you’re living a tough life, as a tough man who’s good at being a man and raising your son or sons to do the same?

7 WAYS TO BE A MORE DECISIVE MAN

A lack of decisiveness is what’s wrong with a lot of young men. They wander. They’re not assertive. They lack focus and drive and persistence. It’s an offset of society, we’ve become one where instant gratification is supreme, so we follow every desire we have. (Read This: How to Fight Your Desires)

To get what you want in life, and that’s damn well important, you have to be decisive about every little action you take. You need an overall direction and purpose to your actions, and then the little things you do in the run of a day have to align with that purpose.

Clarity is king.

When you know who you are, what your values are, what you stand for and where you’re headed, being decisive is simple, even easy.

In this article we’ll go through the 7 ways to be a more decisive man…

… And this is important not just to live a great life, but to be the man for your lady.

Let’s get into it.

1. Practice quick decision-making in the short term, for small things.

While being more decisive in the grand scheme is what you want, being more decisive and assertive in the immediate minutia is where you’ll hone this necessary skill. Practice making fast decisions.

Decide what you want to eat, quickly. Decide what movie you want to watch or what clothes you want to wear. This will actually have another effect…

Our brains only have the capacity to make a certain amount of decisions in the run of a day properly and optimally, after we reach our capacity – and it’s different for everyone – our energy levels decline, and our ability to make the best decisions diminishes. So if you’re spending 30-minutes figure out what to wear in the morning, you’re wasting that energy-making power on something that’s useless. (Read This: How to Be More Decisive)

Make fewer decisions, and make them faster.

2. Practice sticking to what you decided

Practice living with your decisions. Make them fast, then see them through.

You see this a lot with younger guys, and older guys who don’t have the respect of their seeds or spouses, they jump from thing to thing, job to job, hobby to hobby. They lack consistency.

Great men are relentlessly consistent. They know what they want and they don’t deviate from the path to get it.

Practice this consistency with your small decisions. It will transfer to the bigger things in life.

3. Spend a day and figure out what your ideal life would be. Without clarity, you can’t be decisive.

Clarity demands our time and attention.

We rarely spend enough time thinking and planning. We’re always being busy for the sake of being busy. It’s useless. Imagine spending your entire life being busy on the wrong thing!

My goodness… the regret of such time wasted would be a tough pill to swallow, so avoid it by spending the time and energy on figuring out just what you want and creating a plan of how to get it.

Read. Research. Take the time to acquire enough perspective to know that what you want is true. And when you create a vision for your life, being decisive in taking actions that lead you toward it becomes easy.

4. Determine the virtues you hold most important. Make a chart. Tick them off daily.

Ben Franklin did this. Copy him.

He was insightful enough to understand that what he wanted in life is dependent on him, who he was, how much he could work, save, and learn, so he crafted virtues that would help him become the man his goals and dreams needed him to become.

Make a list of 10-14 rules or virtues that you don’t break, and track how well you abide by them.

5. BE the man you want to become, stop waiting to become him. ACT AS IF YOU ARE HIM.

For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. ~ Viktor Frankl

That may be the most powerful quote you’ll ever read.

Success isn’t something you can pursue, it must ensue. It must happen. You do not pursue that man you want to become, you become him. You do not pursue decisiveness, you become more decisive.

People would love for it to be more complicated than that. It isn’t.

What you want is dependent on who you are and you can become the man you need to become, today. You can live the virtues, create the habits, have the thoughts of a billionaire, the habits of a winner, the actions of an explorer, now. You do not need to wait for this to occur.

Those who truly understand this. Those who act with courage now. Those who act decisively today, will become the man they need to become, and the life and the goals and the dreams will soon be their daily reality.

6. Have confidence that you cannot only make the right decision, but that if you make the wrong decision, you’ll win anyway. You’re tough like that.

You’re the man. Whatever decision you make, no matter the outcome, you can and will rise and win as a result of it. Even if you fail, you’ll pick yourself up and get back on the horse.

This allows you to make decisive actions, not from a place of fear, but strength.

You need to be strong. You need to act as though you have nothing to lose and that you can walk away from any deal, decision, and win regardless of where you find yourself.

7. Stop thinking, start doing. Make one big decision right now, do it, and let the chips land where they may.

Practice everything we’ve talked about, but on a big scale.

Book a trip. Buy a domain. Ask a lady out.

Do something that – to you – is big.

Most people won’t do this. But you’re not most people. You know that whatever you do, you’ll make it work, you’ll make victory out of failure.

Get after it.
